MY RECENT COLLECTIONS
RICK & MORTY
The portrait of Rick drinking from his flask is what started me on this journey.

BOJACK HORSEMAN
Who doesn't love Bojack? This was the second project on my journey back into Art. I am particularly pleased with how the eyes turned out.
THE SIMPSONS
Homer! My fourth project since picking my brushes again (the third was a commission piece of Danny Devito for a musician client).I originally tried to do something different with this one but I just couldn't get comfortable with it. The finished piece is a few layers thick as it was repainted halfway through. I love the vibrancy of the colours on this but I feel I could revisit it as I am not happy with his expression. He looks... melancholy, which may be a reflection of my state of mind at the time.

MY RECENT COLLECTIONS
My recent collections explore both a concept and a medium. These projects reflect one of my lifelong passions, which is a deep exploration of the ever changing ethos of society. Through the analysis of animal interactions, I am able to extract an artistic representation of the history of mankind.

BENDER
This came about after asking friends on social media what they would like to see next. I picked bender as he represented a real challenge. I love to paint but I don't have great coordination when it comes to lines and precision. Bender is a solid object and has to obey physical laws so there is no room for error. I was really pleased with how he turned out, not least because I managed to get a great look for his body by using silver paint. One thing I had learned from the Homer painting was that the use of shadows can really add depth and I tried to give this one greater depth by using a distant starfield as the background with those weird slats in the mid-ground, shadows, and then the lighting and shadows on Bender himself.

SPONGEBOB
Spongebob came about after the whole Superbowl debacle. It just seemed right to do. I get a lot of helpful suggestions for subjects, which I am always grateful for, but I find that I can't just pick one and paint it. I have to be 'in the right mood'. That may or may not make sense. Anyway, I decided to do a double header for this one. The display image might not be fully visible due to the landscape orientation of this piece. I had a lot of fun doing this one, especially on Patrick.

SQUIDWARD
My latest piece. This one started as a labour of love, became a labour, then ended a labour of love. I nearly binned it halfway through as I was really not feeling any connection with it. I decided to sit down and give it one more go and ended up sitting and finishing it there and then. I could go back and tweak it - I'm not happy with how things look 'through the hatch', but I know if I start I'll ruin it.
